News

I'm not sure if I should put this out there or not but here goes: I hate watching the news. Yes hate is a strong word but I really do. Someone might say, "Wow did you hear the world is ending tomorrow?" I am that person who has no clue because I do not care to watch the news. Who knows, maybe there are more cons than pros to keeping tabs on what is going on around me but I have always felt that the pros outweigh cons. I promise I'm not prideful about my non-newswatching although it may come across that way. In fact I'm a bit ashamed of it. It makes my own little idealistic world a little better though so maybe I should chalk it up to selfishness.

ANYWAY... I have not been able to escape the local Utah news over the past 24 hours. Amber alerts have been sounding all day for the seven-year-old Burmese girl that went missing. Don't want to be ignorant since I'm not positive but I believe they found her body just this evening; no confirmations have been made though. My heart has been aching all night for what the girl may have gone through and how devastated her family must be. I just hope this child did not have to suffer. Having my own child throws a new spin on sympathizing with loss in this particular way. I had to go in and double-check to be sure Crosby was still in his crib just now. So I continue to wonder... to watch the news or to not watch the news? Anyone have any ideas, comments, or personal experiences to contribute? I would like to hear...

On a brighter note, here is a daddy/son pic!

I liked it because they (sort of) have the same look on their faces.

I'm sorry Alisa. I'm not a big fan of the news either (that's why I tend to get my world update from the Daily Show with Jon Stewart). It's hard to watch the negativity of the news...but please don't ever lose your own little idealistic world. I like that place. In fact, I'm going to apply for citizenship there soon.

All I can really suggest is kiss Crosby a few extra times each day, keep an eye out for shady folks, and don't let the bad news of the world corrupt you. There's a lot more good in the world than the television tends to let on. :)

Lis- The news is filled with things that can break you down and make you feel like there is nothing good out there, but you have a circle of family and friends and a life that proves that isn't true. I don't think it's good to dwell on the news and to watch it every night obsessively, but I do think it's good to know what's going on out there, just so you are aware of the life we're living in- and to make you that much more grateful for what you do have.

Just so you know, I laughed out LOUD at your post on my Skiing at Alta blog. Is that a true story?! Well I have to commend YOU for even attempting a Black Diamond run... I would rather have hid under a tree till the snow melted at that point this weekend.
Love you guys!

I have to say I am like you...I don't really care to watch the news because it is mostly depressing. you are right, that having your own baby puts a whole new spin on just about EVERYTHING good, bad, or indifferant.

I will say though since Byron and I have been married I watch the news alot more because he is news obsessed. It's a little much when he records the NBC Nightly News.

Hey girl! How are you holding up these days? I can't wait to have you join us for playgroup or something so we can get all caught up. I actually watch the news. I'm not anti, like many out there. It IS highly depressing. Unfortunately it's what the people watch; if people watched the nice feature stories then they'd do more of those. But sadly, society seems to like the trash and sensation!! I like the Today show so i can watch my soft, fluffy womanly feature stories :) Miss ya girl.
